Description

Generic Advair is prescribed to control and prevent the symptoms of asthma such as wheezing and shortness of breath. It is also used to control and prevent the symptoms of COPDs – such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It contains two active drugs – Fluticasone and Salmeterol. Fluticasone is a corticosteroid, while Salmeterol is a long-acting beta agonist.

Fluticasone works by reducing the swelling and irritation of the airways. Salmeterol works by opening the airways in the lungs so that you can breathe easier. Generic Advair is available in the form of aerosol inhaler, which is prescribed to control and prevent the symptoms of breathing issues. It is to be used regularly. Remember, it should not be used to get quick relief from a sudden asthma attack. If an asthma attack occurs, you need to use quick-relief inhaler containing Salbutamol.

Action Mechanism

Generic Advair contains two active ingredients in aerosol form – such as Fluticasone and Salmeterol. Fluticasone belongs to the class of drugs called corticosteroids that work by reducing the swelling and irritation of the airways in the lungs. Salmeterol belongs to the family of drugs called beta agonists that work by dilating the airways in the lungs to allow an asthmatic patient breathe easier.

Dosage

Please go through the patient information leaflet as well as instructions provided by your physician before you start using Generic Advair.
Use the inhaler device in a flat position. Inhale the aerosol medication orally as directed by your physician.
The dosage is usually prescribed after considering your age, medical condition, and response to treatment.
You might have to take this asthma inhaler at least twice a day (12 hours apart). You may not taste or feel the drug when you inhale the medicine orally. Do not exhale back into the inhaler.
If you use other inhalers at the same time, you must wait at least a minute and then use each of the medication; keep a proper gap rather than taking them simultaneously.
Make sure you gargle and rinse your mouth after each use of Generic Advair to prevent irritation in the mouth and throat.
Use this asthma medicine regularly in order to control and prevent the symptoms. Use it at the same times each day.
Do not increase or later your dose. Do not stop the medicine on your own volition.

Precautions

Before using Generic Advair, inform your physician if you are allergic to either Fluticasone or Salmeterol, or both.
It may contain certain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions. Speak to your physician for more details.
Prior to using this asthma medication, tell your physician if you have any medical history, especially of herpes, tuberculosis, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, heart disease, etc.
Before undergoing any surgery, inform your physician about all the meds you use, including prescription or OTC drugs, and herbal products or supplements, as Generic Advair may interact with certain products.

NOTE:These are a few commonly reported side effects of Generic Advair. If these side effects persist, get immediate medical attention. Many people using Generic Advair do not have any type of serious side effects. However, this asthma medication may increase your blood pressure a bit, so check your blood pressure on a regular basis and inform your physician if the levels are high.

Warnings

Elderly people with COPD are probably at a greater risk for developing pneumonia while using Generic Advair. They may also be more sensitive to the adverse effects of this asthma drug.
This asthma medication may delay a childs growth if used for a longer duration. See your physician regularly to check your childs height while he/she is using the medicine.
During pregnancy, this drug should be used only when your physician recommends. Discuss all the risks and benefits of using this medicine with your physician.
It has been not known whether this medication can pass into breast milk. Before you breast-feed your baby, consult with your physician.
