Description

Generic Voltarol is the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to reduce pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is used to relieve the menstrual pain, ocular inflammation, and actinic keratosis. This medicine contains Diclofenac as the active constituent that is responsible for relieving pain, swelling, stiffness, or inflammation. It is an analgesic medicine that gives a quick relief from pain and inflammation. This medication belongs to class of medicines called as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It also treats the degenerative diseases of hip and is found to be the best treatment for all the joint pains associated with the reduction of synovial fluid in the joints.

Action Mechanism

Time it takes to start working: Process starts immediately after consuming the pill.

Generic Voltarol contains Diclofenac as the active constituent that blocks the action of enzymes cyclo-oxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) that promotes the production of prostaglandins that are responsible for pain, swelling, and inflammation. It suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory hormones that are responsible for causing inflammation and swelling. It increases the blood flow to the affected area and thus reduces pain and stiffness.

Dosage

In osteoarthritis prescribed dosage is 100-150 mg/day in divided doses.
You can take an entire dosage of 150mg at once or you could split the dose into 50mg three times a day or 75mg two times a day.
Its recommended dosage in Rheumatoid Arthritis is 150 to 200 mg twice or thrice in a day.
Don’t increase the dosage to more than 600 mg in a day because it can cause severe complications to your health.
Please discuss with the doctor, if you want to increase the dosage.
Its dosage is 100 to 125 mg once in a day for the patients suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis.
An extra dose of 25mg can be taken a few minutes before bedtime to avail maximum benefit.
Prescribed dosage is 300 mg twice in a day for the individuals having primary Dysmenorrhea, menstrual pain, or severe acute Pain.
Dose can be increased up to 600mg in cases of severe acute pain.
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water, do not break, chew or powder it.
It is recommended not to lie down immediately after taking your dose as it will cause irritation in the upper part of the stomach
This medication should not be taken on an empty stomach. It is always recommended to take this medication along with food, milk or an antacid.

NOTE: Depending on the diseases and the intensity of pain, prescribed dosage of generic Voltarol is given. Physician is the best person who can guide you regarding how and when you should take the dosage of generic Voltarol.

Precautions

FDA has given pregnancy category C rating to generic Voltarol. This means that it may be harmful to an unborn baby. It may also cause serious or fatal side effects in a newborn if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy or labor. Please tell your doctor if you are pregnant during treatment of this medication.
It can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. It should be discontinued if you want to breast feed the baby.
Please tell your doctor about the allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances that you have.
Take the doctor’s advice regarding the intake of this medicine, if you have a history of alcohol abuse, substance abuse, addiction to alcohol.
Individuals suffering from bleeding problems should not use this drug because it may lead to the severe cases of bleeding in stomach and intestines.
If you have or recently have had any head injury, brain injury or tumor, increased pressure in the brain, or infection of the brain or nervous system avoid the intake of generic Voltarol.
Discuss with the doctor about the dosage of this drug and let the doctor know if you have a history of stomach or intestinal problems, asthma or other lung or breathing problems, epilepsy, seizures, or chronic inflammation or ulceration of the bowels.
Individuals suffering from heart problems, liver problems (e.g., hepatitis), kidney problems, thyroid problems, enlargement of the prostate gland, or urinary problems should consult doctor before starting the dosage of this medication.
People with the history of alcohol addiction or other narcotic addiction should not take the medication for an extended duration of time.
The safety of this drug is not known in children. Please avoid giving generic Voltarol to children..
Individuals having diabetes should consult doctor regarding the dosage of this medication.
Regular check-ups are mandatory for the elderly patients using this drug.

Warnings

Avoid taking Generic Imitrex for around 24 hours if you have consumed methylergonovine (Methergine), zolmitriptan (Zomig), naratriptan (Amerge), ergonovine (Ergotrate), eletriptan (Relpax), frovatriptan (Frova), rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT) or almotriptan (Axert).
Also, avoid Generic Imitrex in case you have consumed any kind of MAOI or monoamine oxidase inhibitors such as rasagaline (Azilect), phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Pamate) or selegiline (Emsam) in the past two weeks.
Do not exceed the suggested dose without consulting your doctor, as it might lead to serious health problems.
