Action Mechanism

Prazosin in the Prazopress XL medicine is a competitive alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It works to block alpha-1 receptors on muscle cells that cover the blood vessels; prazosin works efficiently for vasodilation (widening) of the blood vessels, which leads to lowering the resistance against the blood flow. The overall advantage of its use is lowering or normalizing the blood pressure. The active ingredient seems to have a good effect on reducing diastolic blood pressure than systolic blood pressure.

Dosage

Prazopress XL dosage for adults to treat hypertension is as follows:
The Prazopress XL dosage regime is set as per the patient’s response.
For the treatment of high blood pressure, initially, 1mg of dosage is advised two to three times a day. For lowering the risk of orthostatic hypotension, one could take Prazopress XL dosage during bedtime initially. Orthostatic hypotension is a condition where there is a drop in the blood pressure while standing from a sitting or lying position.
Dosage may be increased progressively over time to a total dose of 20mg in a divided form in a day.
If your doctor advises you another (diuretic) pill with Prazopress XL drug to lower the blood pressure, then the dose of Prazopress XL should be reduced to 1-2 mg orally thrice a day; followed by gradually increasing the dosage as needed.
The elderly parents are more prone to the side effects of lower blood pressure, dose reduction in the elderly is necessary. To most elderly patients, 1 mg Prazopress XL dosage for 1-2 times daily works effectively.
The safety and effectiveness of Prazopress XL have not been studied in children.

Precautions

Before you start taking Prazopress XL, you must inform your doctor if you are allergic to ant active or inactive ingredients of the Prazopress XL drug.
Inform your doctor if you have a history of cardiac arrest or cardiac disorders such as stroke.
If you have liver or kidney disorder, do not use the Prazopress XL drug. However, discuss it with your doctor
Tell your doctor if you have to undergo eye surgery such as cataract removal.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should take Prazopress XL drugs under medical supervision.
