Generic Zanaflex works by relaxing the muscles which are stressed by excessive strain. It blocks the signals of pain sensation sent to the brain by the nerves in the area where the muscles are contracted or stressed. This medicine contains Tizanidine that is a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist. In case of spinal injury, generic Zanaflex blocks the signals sent by the spinal cord to the brain. Its main constituent Tizanidine shows the main effects on the polysynaptic pathway. Thus, the overall effect of this medication is observed to reduce facilitation of spinal motor neurons that transfer the signal from the spinal cord to the brain. You may experience the effect of generic Zanaflex in about 30 minutes and the effect will stay on for 3 to 5 hours after taking the medication.

Dosage

  • The prescribed dosage of generic Zanaflex is 4 mg twice in a day
  • The dosage can be increased up to 8 mg thrice in a day depending upon the individual requirements and response to the preliminary dosage.
