Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition characterized by excessive secretion of stomach acid that flows back to the esophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and difficulty swallowing. GERD medications often contain proton pump inhibitors, such as rabeprazole, pantoprazole, omeprazole, which act by inhibiting proton pumps in order to stop too much secretion of stomach acid. GERD medications are available over-the-counter.
